Dear Parents and Carers of Gatton State School,
Thank you for your continued support of the school and broader community as we work through the local issues following the weekend weather event. I know that families and local businesses will need time to assess any damage and begin cleaning-up following the rain and flooding in our local area.
Families are encouraged to tune-in to local media, monitor weather conditions, heed the warnings and follow instructions from emergency services.
Remember, “If it's flooded, forget it".
Our school will re-open on Tuesday 01/03/22, however, safety of students, staff and community members is our highest priority. This means some staff will not be able to travel to Gatton school, requiring classes to be combined to ensure adequate supervision of students. These decisions will be based on staff availability, number of students attending and other local conditions.
Please consider your personal safety and the well-being of your children, and weigh up any risks if considering travelling to school over the coming days.
The school closures website is updated on a daily basis. Parents and carers should check this site each day to confirm if our school will be open.
Absences due to emergencies and natural disasters will not be recorded on a student's report card.
We will continue to provide daily information to families, via Facebook, SMS, web page and email as it becomes available. There are also many excellent resources on the Queensland Government Get Ready Queensland website that serve as a checklist for our homes, travel arrangements and our personal safety.
Again, thank you for your ongoing support and please stay safe.
Regards,
Warren Merchant
Principal Gatton SS
