Instrumental and choral music programs
Gatton State School has a strong music program with music specialists visiting the school. The strings, instrumental and choir teachers' co-ordinate a wide variety of opportunities for our students.
The purpose of instrumental and choral music at Gatton is to provide students with the chance to experience the joy of making and understanding music.
Through participation in the music programs, students have the opportunity to develop:
an enjoyment of making music
self-esteem and confidence
a sense of commitment and purpose
teamwork and performance skills
Instrumental Music
Free tuition is available for the following instruments by our visiting instrumental teachers.
Years 5-6 band program: flute, clarinet, alto and tenor saxophones, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion including drums, tuned percussion and auxiliary percussion.
Years 3 - 6 strings program: violin, viola and cello
The concert band which includes all students from the brass, woodwind and percussion lessons, rehearse once a week.
Choral Music
Gatton State School has two choirs who perform at numerous parades and events both at school and in the local community.
Junior choir is for any student in years 1-3 who enjoys singing. Our junior choir currently consists of approximately 40 members who rehearse each Wednesday during lunchtime.
Senior choir is for any student in years 4-6 who enjoys singing. Our senior choir currently consists of approximately 30 members who rehearse lunchtime on Tuesday.
Gatton's Got Talent
Gatton State School holds a talent contest for students in years 4-6 who believe they have a special talent in a performing arts - dance, drama or music. The students participate in three rounds of competition, during lunchtime, before the finals where the top four acts perform for the school and the winner is announced. This is an activity that a number of students enjoy and also provides them with the opportunity to perform in any of the arts areas. In 2016 we added a staff section which created great interest!!
